Terms and conditions

Last updated: 22 October 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Durva Mathure, who runs Whysk on her own from California, United States. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean Durva and Whysk. They apply to this website, the waitlist and the Whysk app. By using any of them you agree to these terms. Please also read our privacy policy, which explains how we handle your information.

Who can use Whysk

You must be 16 or older to use Whysk. Whysk is for personal, non-commercial use in your own home.

The waitlist and early access

Joining the waitlist does not guarantee access or a date. We let people in a few at a time. Early versions of Whysk may change, have bugs, or lose features while we improve it, and we may pause or stop early access at any time. Your feedback helps; by sending it, you let us use it to improve Whysk without owing you anything for it.

Your account

You can use Whysk as a guest or sign in with Apple, Google or a one-time code sent to your email. Keep access to your sign-in method safe; you are responsible for what happens in your account. If you use Whysk as a guest and delete the app or change phones without creating an account, your data may be lost.

Whysk Pro

Seeing what you can cook tonight from your fridge is free. Planned weeks are part of Whysk Pro, a subscription. Everyone gets 2 planned weeks free first, with no card needed; you only pay if you choose to buy Whysk Pro. The price and billing period are shown in the app before you buy.

  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase.
  • Whysk Pro renews automatically at the end of each period unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before it ends.
  • Manage or cancel it in your iPhone Settings, under your Apple ID and Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies.
  • If we change the price, Apple tells you before it applies, and you can cancel.

Food, health and safety

Whysk helps you decide what to cook. It is not a dietitian, a doctor or a food safety service.

  • Allergies and diets: Whysk leaves out the foods you tell it to, but recipes and scans can contain mistakes. Always check ingredients yourself if you have an allergy or a medical diet.
  • Nutrition: protein, calories and other numbers are estimates, not medical advice.
  • Food safety: use-by dates and freshness tips in Whysk are only a guide. Check food before you eat it, and cook and store it safely.
  • Scanning: the AI that reads your photos can miss or misread items. Check what it found.
  • Recipes are written and approved by a person before you see them, but you cook at your own risk. Take care with knives, heat and appliances.

Using Whysk fairly

Please do not:

  • copy, resell or scrape Whysk, its recipes or its content;
  • try to break, overload or get around Whysk’s limits or security;
  • use Whysk to break the law or to harm anyone;
  • upload photos of anything other than your food, or photos of other people without their permission.

What belongs to whom

Whysk, its design, its recipes and its content belong to us or the people who license them to us. We give you a personal right to use the app and the website under these terms. It is non-transferable: you cannot give or sell it to someone else.

Your data stays yours. You give us permission to store and process it only to run Whysk for you, as the privacy policy describes.

Other services

Whysk relies on services run by others, such as Apple, Google and our hosting and AI providers. Their own terms apply to your use of them, and we are not responsible for them.

No guarantees

In plain words: we try hard, but we cannot promise Whysk will always work or suit you.

We work hard to make Whysk useful, but it is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will always be available, error-free, or right for your needs, and we disclaim all implied warranties, including fitness for a particular purpose.

Limit of liability

In plain words: if something goes wrong, the most we can owe you is what you paid us for Whysk in the last 12 months, or 50 US dollars if that is more.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost food, money or data. Our total liability for any claim about Whysk is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for Whysk in the 12 months before the claim, or 50 US dollars. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you; nothing in these terms limits rights you have by law that cannot be limited.

Ending your use

You can stop using Whysk and delete your account at any time in Settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and we may stop offering Whysk; if we stop, we will tell you in advance where we can and let you export your data.

Apple

If you got Whysk from the App Store, these points also apply:

  • These terms are between you and us, not Apple.
  • Apple is not responsible for Whysk or its content, and has no duty to provide support or maintenance for it.
  • Apple is not responsible for any claims about Whysk, including product liability, legal compliance or intellectual property claims.
  • If Whysk fails to meet a warranty that applies, you may tell Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price. Apple has no other warranty duty.
  • Apple can also enforce these terms against you (Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries).
  • You confirm you are not in a country under a US embargo and are not on a US list of prohibited or restricted parties.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Whysk grows. We will update the date at the top, and if a change matters we will tell you in the app or by email before it applies. If you keep using Whysk after that, the new terms apply.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts in California, unless the law where you live lets you bring it to a court near you. Please email us first; most problems can be fixed with a conversation.
